As a research-intensive university, the University of Cologne aims to offer researchers, inventors, and entrepreneurs the best possible conditions for development and growth. Our first flagship project was therefore the construction of an innovation and startup center on the university campus. The InnoDom Cologne is an extraordinary, five-story office building located at Weyertal 109. It was officially opened in June 2023. The construction was made possible thanks to generous donations from initial donors.

Work Where Innovation Takes Shape
Some of the 164 coworking spaces are permanently leased to Gateway ESC, the University of Cologne’s startup support service. All other coworking spaces are leased through medfacilities Betrieb GmbH to interested startups, freelancers, and service providers supporting startups.

Spaces for Focus and Collaboration
InnoDom Cologne offers both individual coworking spaces in the open office and office spaces with up to six workstations (homebases). Touchdown spaces, which can be used flexibly, provide additional flexibility. In addition to large conference and event rooms on the ground floor, meeting areas on every floor provide space for collaboration.
Special highlights:
- Two multi-story event rooms called “LIKE-ITs” (L = Relax, I = Inspire, K = Communicate, E = Experience, I = Inform, T = Meet) are perfect for gatherings and workshops
- three large rooftop terraces
- our “Gateway Coffee” café on the ground floor serves food and drinks
The “LIKE-ITs,” the rooftop terraces, and the café are open to all tenants.

Ideal conditions for new ideas
The coworking spaces can be rented regardless of whether funding is provided by Gateway ESC. Startup teams affiliated with Gateway ESC receive guidance from coaches and mentors right from the start and get support in applying for funding programs. Last but not least, the Gateway ESC also facilitates contacts with partner companies and investors. In short, these are ideal conditions for supporting new ideas on their path to becoming a reality.
