Press Release: InnoDom Cologne Startup Center Officially Opens


This extraordinary building on the University of Cologne campus makes it clear
even from a distance: this is where ideas for the future are born. – On Tuesday, June 20, the InnoDom Cologne startup center was officially opened in the presence of North Rhine-Westphalia Minister of Economic Affairs
Mona Neubaur, North Rhine-Westphalia Minister of Science Ina Brandes, and Mayor Andreas
Wolter. The innovative spaces offer student
founders optimal conditions for development, thereby sustainably strengthening the transfer of
scientific knowledge to business and society. Some of the
164 workstations are already being used by the Gateway Exzellenz Start-up Center
(the University of Cologne’s startup service). The new building, which cost 24
million euros, was made possible by the Cologne University Foundation.

Topping-Out Ceremony Held for Innovation and Startup Center

More than 150 guests, including Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker and former North Rhine-Westphalia Minister of Economic Affairs Andreas Pinkwart, celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the University of Cologne’s Innovation and Startup Center (IGZ) on September 15. As a research-intensive university, the University of Cologne aims to provide researchers, inventors, and entrepreneurs with optimal conditions for development. To this end, the University of Cologne Foundation is building the IGZ in the immediate vicinity of the university’s main building. Starting in 2023, the Gateway ESC (the University of Cologne’s startup service), entrepreneurs, and startup-related service providers will work together under one roof in an inspiring atmosphere.
